It’s happened to us all: You pull out of the driveway, and an hour later you’re racking your brain. Did you unplug the curling iron? Or remember to pack the medication you keep by the sink? Did your pile of makeup and toiletries make it into your suitcase? You may be so uncertain that you find yourself turning the car around.
We have one fail-safe recommendation to fix this problem: Take a photo of your bathroom just before you leave. Or take several, making sure that you capture all the critical areas like the sink top, medicine cabinets, and outlets. As we’ll explain, there are many good reasons to document the state of your powder room before you head out on vacation.
Confirm You Left Everything Safe
A photo can confirm that you unplugged all your small appliances: the curling iron, hair dryer, electric razors, and more. This is the safest thing to do any time you leave town. And if your curling iron is unplugged, you can rest assured that it’s not on and overheating.
Make Sure You Packed What You Need
Getting a pic of the sink countertop will reassure you that you didn’t forget your medication or toiletries. If it turns out you did, you can show a friend or family member exactly where to find it.
Prepare Yourself For A Shopping Trip
If shipping toothbrushes, contact lenses, and deodorant isn’t practical, now you know what you’re going to have to buy. Plus, you can call the pharmacy immediately if you forgot your prescription, instead of realizing what happened long after it closes.
Communicate Needs To A House Sitter
With your photographic evidence, you now know if you should make any requests to a house sitter or family member who’s agreed to keep an eye on the house. You can send them over to unplug that curling iron as soon as possible.
Document Your Belongings
As dreadful as it is to think about, emergencies can happen while we’re on vacation. If your home is damaged by flood, fire, or a falling tree, you’ll want photos of your belongings to share with insurance.
Fully Enjoy Your Trip
There’s nothing worse than physically being on vacation while your mind is stuck somewhere else. If you find it hard to relax on a trip, capturing photos can help give you the peace of mind you need to relax.
