This Southern Beach Just Earned The Title Of "Calmest And Quietest" In America

Looking for a serene beach getaway with lots of nature and no crowds? The answer lies in small seaside town in North Carolina.

A new study released by the website McLuck ranks Holden Beach, North Carolina, as the quietest around. Researchers for McLuck analyzed TripAdvisor reviews for 158 beaches in the country, looking for blessedly peaceful words like “relax,” “calm,” and “quiet.”

Holden Beach is a barrier island town that’s all about natural beauty and a family-friendly environment. Beach life is focused on boating, shelling, hiking, fishing, and watching sea turtles hatch. In summer, things liven up with the town’s free concert series on Sundays.

“Its uncrowded sands, small-town charm, and strict limits on commercial development may explain why so many people find it a peaceful haven,” McLuck raves. “It’s a classic Carolina beach town where time seems to slow down with the tide.”

Holden Beach wasn’t the only North Carolina beach noted for its relaxed reputation. Another Brunswick Island beach, Oak Island, came in sixth. In fact, the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic took the top nine slots in McLuck’s nationwide “serenity score” ranking.
