Kelly Ripa might feel a bit of animal attraction toward Rottweilers — but only because she thinks husband and Live cohost Mark Consuelos looks like one.
The daytime TV icon introduced a talking point about pets that look like their owners during Tuesday morning’s cohost chat, beginning on a somber note as she told the audience, “My lookalike passed away,” referencing the February death of the couple’s 17-year-old dog, Chewie.
“We did look a lot alike. Your lookalike is still alive and kicking,” Ripa said, turning toward Consuelos as she spoke about their surviving dog, Lena.
Later, Ripa said, “I think you look a lot like a Rottweiler,” before asking the Live studio audience to weigh in on Consuelos’ face as he mugged for the Live camera.
“He does! Looks like a Rottweiler, don’t you think? Look, look at this man, look into the camera,” she urged as Consuelos turned to stare down the lens.
“I’ve got Rottweiler energy,” Consuelos added. “Big Rottweiler energy,” Ripa purred in reply.
Ripa then revealed that, now, “Mark is the man who takes his dog to restaurants” after initially resisting the idea of adopting Lena.

“The man who did not want this dog now carries her in a purse to restaurants,” Ripa said. “It’s a purse.”
Consuelos said that, at home, sometimes his affections for Lena are easily mistaken for sweet greetings for his wife.
“I’ve got to be careful now, because if the two of you are in the kitchen, and I walk into the kitchen and say, ‘Hey baby,'” Consuelos joked, with Ripa jumping in to note, “I realize he’s not talking to me!”
