Maria Shriver Weighs In on Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Ex Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger broke up a decade ago—but Schwarzenegger’s mom Maria Shriver still remembers Cyrus fondly.

Of Cyrus—who dated her son from the fall of 2014 to the spring of 2015—Shriver said on Today with Jenna & Friends that she “liked” her and would be “happy to talk” to her if they bumped into one another (via People).

The conversation came up as Shriver and Jenna Bush Hager were discussing parents staying friends with their kids’ exes during the show’s “Social Dilemmas” segment. Bush Hager asked her co-host, “Did you ever do that with any of your kids’ exes? Keep in touch with them?” to which Shriver replied, “No, no. I’m trying to think—no.” (In addition to Patrick, Shriver is also mom to daughters Katherine and Christina and son Christopher with ex-husband Arnold Schwarzenegger.)

“No Miley Cyrus?” Bush Hager responded, which got a laugh out of Shriver.

“I would be very happy to see Miley,” Shriver said. “I liked Miley. I’d be happy to see her. But I did not stay texting—no, I didn’t.”

Interestingly, Patrick’s dad Arnold also recently spoke about Cyrus, he on a Watch What Happens live appearance on June 23—just this past Monday.

“She’s a wonderful, wonderful girl and human being,” Arnold told host Andy Cohen of Cyrus. “And very, very talented.”

“She came up to Sun Valley when we were skiing up there,” he continued. “And she was just a wonderful houseguest. We just all loved her.”

He added, “She was just a really good, good person and fun to hang out with. I’m sorry it didn’t work out.”

Well, likely not too sorry, as Patrick is set to marry fiancée Abby Champion imminently. Cyrus has moved on, too—after her relationship with Patrick, she rekindled her romance with Liam Hemsworth, ultimately marrying him in 2018 before their divorce in 2020. In 2021, she started dating Maxx Morando, who was a producer on her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation.
