Yesterday, the royal family came together for the annual tradition of Trooping the Colour. The ceremony, which marks the official birthday of the monarch, features a parade followed by the traditional flypast of the RAF Red Arrows, which the family watches from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Kate Middleton rode in a carriage with her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, which her husband, Prince William, took on a more ceremonial role, dressing in a military uniform and riding on horseback. (Of course, Middleton found time to steal a glance at her husband.)
The royals later shared a rare family photo from the day’s events on Instagram. “Another brilliant day at Trooping the Colour for His Majesty’s Birthday Parade,” read the caption. “Thank you to everybody who came, and to all those who took part.” The photo saw the family standing together by some stone steps, presumably at Buckingham Palace. Middleton, George, and William stood in the back, while Charlotte and Louis stood in front. Middleton wrapped one arm around her daughter’s waist, while William rested a hand on his youngest son’s shoulder.

The royals also shared a video of the day on social media that featured clips from the parade and traditional flypast.

This was Middleton’s first Trooping the Colour appearance since the news of her cancer remission last September. Middleton recreated an iconic Princess Diana look for the occasion, opting for a bright blue and what Catherine Walker coatdress and matching hat. The look seemingly recalled Diana’s blue and white Catherine Walker suit dress from 1992. She also rewore a royal heirloom that had been worn by both Diana and Queen Elizabeth.
Middleton’s blue look matched with her daughter’s pale blue and white dress. And, like her mother, Charlotte also paid homage to the late queen with a diamond brooch.

Meanwhile, George and Louis wore matching navy suits and red ties—but fans were more interested in their antics during the parade.
