I used to loved social media. They were a digital space in which I learn to create art, form others and build a community into shared interests. I was a fairly popular content creator and produced, turned and played in videos that critically dealt with the media, culture and society, everything from the perspective of a feminist Latina. Today I hate social media. I hate it like capitalism something that used to be so creative, entertaining, educational and together was reduced to endless advertising clips, product placements and influencers. Everything – From brunch with friend: inside to the house renovation – feel like this today staged to. And that’s just exhausting. I long for the time when social media was still a completely new virtual world in which you could get to know people and create content without being under pressure so that as many likes, shares and follows. I would love to return during this time in order to be able to feel the joy that these platforms have prepared for me.
