Jake Shane has shot to internet stardom in the past year. His hilarious skits recreating obscure, fictional scenarios established him as a star of the Gen Z comedy world. Now, he’s bringing his humor to the stage with the LIVE with Jake Shane Tour. When he’s not on stage performing his comedy show, he’s indulging in another passion: food. As a self-proclaimed foodie, he enjoys exploring comfort classics and new dishes alike. We caught up with him as he wraps up his tour, and he revealed what’s been keeping him going through his travels.
As Shane travels around the country stopping at various cities to perform his live comedy show, he also has the opportunity to try lots of new restaurants. His favorite spot that he’s dined at is The Optimist in Atlanta — a seafood restaurant offering delicacies like lobster rolls, gumbo, and oysters.
Regardless of what city he’s in, there’s some cravings that just seem to follow him. He can always count on Chipotle to hit the spot — specifically the vinaigrette. “The dressing used to be kinda a secret menu item but now it’s not,” Shane says. “But it’s incredible.”
Tour life can be exhausting, so fueling up before getting on a stage and entertaining thousands of people is a must. Shane eats a meal before every show — along with a can of CELSIUS for some extra energy. “During the before stuff I drink a CELSIUS and it makes sure I’m alert and giving 100% to the audience that night,” Shane says. “It makes sure that I am giving the best show I can.”
He definitely needs all the energy he can get, especially when he’s performing at a sold-out show, like he did at Radio City Music Hall. That’s his favorite memory of the tour thus far — a dream that he didn’t think was possible to achieve.
Snacks are an essential while touring. “Garrett popcorn simply salted or whatever popcorn the venue is giving out” is Shane’s must-have. You can always find him with a bucket between rehearsals and shows. It totally makes sense that one of his favorite kitchen items is the Popsmith Popcorn Popper. A true popcorn lover needs access to freshly popped popcorn at all times, especially in their own home. For some additional flavor, Shane goes for Truff black truffle oil — perfect for pasta, pizza, and of course, popcorn. A reusable metal straw is another kitchen essential for Shane. How else is he supposed to drink all that CELSIUS?
During a show, Shane can work up an appetite. That’s why he has a go-to post-show meal.”If I can find really good sushi wherever I am, it’s that,” Shane says. When he has those super late night cravings, he’s typically ordering Thai food.
Back in college, Shane enjoyed simpler delicacies. His meal of choice was a bowl of pasta with butter and cheese. Food trends might come and go, but butter noodles seem to be sticking around as an essential college meal. One trend he’s not a fan of though? Goat cheese pasta. “Nasty,” Shane says. He’s more into the swamp soup trend — a green soup with spinach, rice, and jalapeños popularized by Wishbone Kitchen.
Even as Shane tries new restaurants during his travels, he still has his hometown favorites. If you ever find yourself in his home state of California, Shane has some must-visit restaurants for you. Taverna Tony in Malibu offers traditional Greek dishes with a side of live music and belly dancers, while Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills combines Japanese and Peruvian cuisine.
As he wraps up his tour, Shane will continue doing what he does best: making thousands laugh with his eccentric sense of humor — and eating along the way.
