‘The Social Network Part II’ In The Works At Sony – ScreenHub Entertainment
David Fincher’s The Social Network is arguably one of the best films of the 2010s and now, fifteen years later, it seems like we’re finally going to continue the story of Facebook. Deadline is reporting that the film, currently titled The Social Network Part II is in early development over at Sony. David Fincher is sitting this one out, but the film’s original scribe, Aaron Sorkin, is on board as both writer and director.
Where the original film was a very loose adaptation of The Accidental Billionaires book by Ben Mezrich, Part II is said to be pulling its inspiration from the Wall Street Journal’s 2021 series of articles known as The Facebook Files, which was an exposé on the company’s operations and the harm the platform has caused knowingly. Sources say that the film will be very much about the influence of the social media platform, rather than how the company works from within. With that in mind, it’s unknown if actors like Jesse Eisenberg or Andrew Garfield will be returning in any capacity for the follow-up, or if the film will be going in a new direction to tell its story.
The original Social Network film was a huge hit financially as well as critically, earning eight Oscar nominations and earning three, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin. The sequel is to be produced by Sorkin, alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser.
