Last week, KPop Demon Hunters debuted on Netflix, telling a story about a trio of demon hunters who are also K-pop stars. Not only was this film highly praised by fans and critics alike, but the official soundtrack has already generated millions of streams. But, despite its newfound popularity, it could not beat Tyler Perry’s 2025 psychological crime drama. According to Netflix’s Top 10 Movies overview from June 16 to 22, 2025, KPop Demon Hunters landed at #2 in the Global charts as it could not beat Straw’s three-week streak thanks to its 20 million views. KPop Demon Hunters has only generated 9.2 million views since its release, beating Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy. When focusing on just the United States, KPop Demon Hunters only made it to 6th, sitting between Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem and Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster. But despite its runner-up placement in the charts, KPop Demon Hunters did well for itself. On Rotten Tomatoes, it received a high 96% critics score and an 85% audience score. Meanwhile, its most streamed original song on Spotify is “Golden,” which has generated over 4 million streams. And while a sequel has yet to be announced, the film’s director, Maggie Kang, teased to ScreenRant that there’s more to explore.
What’s ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ About?
KPop Demon Hunters is a Sony Animated movie about Huntrix, which consists of Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). They are the newest generation of demon hunters whose singing voices can drive demons away and create a barrier called the Honmoon. After another failed attempt to stop Huntrix, Jinu (Ahn Hyo-seop) offers a new plan to the demon king, Gwi-Ma (Lee Byung-hun) – create a demon boyband and use the Huntrix’s fans as a way to weaken the Honmoon. In exchange, he wants the memories of his past life erased. Jinu then discovers that Rumi has a secret – she’s part demon and hasn’t told her friends, and uses this knowledge to get the upper hand. Fans praised this Sony Animated feature, as many noticed the Korean cultural references used to tell this supernatural tale with a modern twist. Additionally, after it was revealed that an alternate scene was drafted for Rumi and Jinu’s date, one being a romantic aquarium date, fans on social media were upset that it wasn’t added to the movie. Meanwhile, critics praised it for its stunning visuals, fantastic story, and music and performances. KPop Demon Hunters is now available to stream on Netflix.
