
OpenAI’s ChatGPT is experiencing widespread outage globally. The outage of the popular chatbot started early Wednesday (July 16) after which thousands of ChatGPT users were not able access the AI chatbot. The ChatGPT outage has also affected Sora and GPT API. This is the second time in the month that ChatGPT is facing a global outage. As reported by DownDetector, around 88% ChatGPT users are not able to access the chatbot. The users also reported of login failures. OpenAI has acknowledged the outage on its status page and the company is working on a fix.
ChatGPT down for users globally
As per DownDetector, the website which keeps track of services reported that the outage began around 6.10 AM IST on July 16 (today). Around 88% users complained of complete inaccessibility of ChatGPT. While 10% reported of issues with the website and 9% had problems with the app. Users reported of complete blank chat screen and incomplete responses. Some of the users also had issues with the login as the chatbot was not able to move ahead the verification process. Apart of this, users also complained of sudden disconnections during live session and many lost their work in coding and video generation with tools like Codex and Sora.
ChatGPT down: What OpenAI said about the outage
OpenAI acknowledged the problem on its status page, stating: “We have identified elevated error rates and are working on a mitigation.” The company has confirmed that it is working on a fix but it has not yet revealed the reason behind the outage or provided a timeline for full restoration.
