“We get a lot of B******* thrown at us by Putin. He is very nice all the time. But it turns out to be meaningless”. That’s what US President Donald Trump said during a recent cabinet meeting. In the same breath, Trump pledged more military support for Ukraine. On a 2024 audio tape that has gone public, Trump can be heard telling a private gathering of donors that he once tried to deter Putin from attacking Ukraine by threatening to “bomb the s*** out of Moscow”. Has Trump given up on Putin? Does he now believe Putin cannot be trusted? Or is Trump trying to step up pressure on his Russian counterpart in the desperate hope for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine?
