MINET, ON – The 2025 Ford Expedition is a bigger and bolder version of the SUV, the intent being to help it better challenge the Chevrolet Tahoe, its main rival since the first Expedition appeared in 1997. This new fifth generation goes further than all previous iterations in terms of style, technology and driving pleasure.
The Expedition is a colossus on wheels, a symbol of American prestige, perfect for families or those who travel to the cottage with their boat. Or simply for those who want to impose their presence on the road. There’s also a Tremor version is even specially built for adventure.

2025 Ford Expedition – What’s new?
Everything has been redesigned on the 2025 Expedition. Its more rugged appearance, reinforced by slimmer headlights, a sculpted grille and a more assertive bumper, underlines its change in status. The rear also adopts a more modern style, with horizontal taillights and a two-piece tailgate, ideal for when you want to sit there or load things into the cargo space (up to 500 lb of it).
The transformation aims for a perfect balance between stately appearance and pragmatism. The Tremor version does things like offer two LED light bars at the front to illuminate your trails at night.

Design of the 2025 Ford Expedition – 8.0/10
From the side, the 2025 Expedition maintains its colossal dimensions, with taut lines stretching from the front wheel arch to the taillights. This silhouette, reinforced by wheels that can go up to 24 inches (on Platinum and King Ranch models), ensures a road presence that is hard to ignore. The flatter roofline and redesigned tailgate enhance its rugged look while providing more space at the rear.
In short, the 2025 Ford Expedition blends American muscle, modern elegance and a stately appearance.
You also have a unique colour palette for the Tremor in Agate Black or Marsh Green, as well as 33-inch General Grabber tyres for tackling trails. Note that the Max version is still available regardless of the trim and that you must add $3,500 to the bill to have it.

Interior of the 2025 Ford Expedition – 9.0/10
Stepping into the Expedition is like entering a world of excess and refinement. Space is king; every passenger has ample room, whether in the front, on the second-row bench or in the third row.
The dashboard is dominated by two giant screens: driver gets the fully digital instrumentation, everyone benefits from the infotainment system accessed via a large 13.2-inch central panel. You get wireless connectivity and all the applications one expects from a modern experience.
This environment, reinforced by high-quality materials, exudes a refinement not previously associated with a large American SUV.
Practical details extend to every corner of the cabin. The second-row bench, which can fold 40/20/40, facilitates the loading of long items or pairs of skis.
The third row offers genuine comfort, accommodating two adults for long distances. With 36 cubic feet of cargo space when all seats are in use, or up to over 79 cubic feet once the second row is folded, the Expedition ranks among the most practical in its segment.
Technology in the 2025 Ford Expedition – 6.0/10
Ford has vigorously updated driver assistance and entertainment systems. Level 2 autonomous driving, BlueCruise 1.4, can handle steering duties on the highway for up to 20 minutes at a time when all conditions are met – which does put it behind GM’s Super Cruise, still the champion in this area. We also noted that the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping did not function very well on the secondary roads of the Ontario countryside.
We also need to talk about the elephant in the room. The new Sync system has lost all its user-friendliness. The digital dashboard is poorly received by drivers who have expressed their dissatisfaction with the absence of physical controls: instead, you get slippery touchpads as if you were trying to control a tablet with a mouse. The touch-sensitive climate controls are unintuitive, and the display area is distracting. You have to slide through the menu using two touch buttons on the steering wheel. We also experienced a few screen freezes.
One last strange detail concerns the two screens, one behind the other, which are redundant in information. We question the relevance of such an approach.

Powertrain of the 2025 Ford Expedition – 8.5/10
Under the bonnet, the 3.5L twin-turbo V6 feels at ease and proves to be particularly torquey and responsive. The base Active version offers 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, while the Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch models deliver 440 hp and 510 lb-ft. This power, transmitted by an excellent 10-speed automatic transmission, ensures energetic acceleration and easy overtaking on the highway.
Depending on the configuration, it’s possible to tow up to 9,600 lb, or 300 lb more than the 2024 model. And hats off to Ford for their great work on the engine sound. When accelerating and overtaking, you’d swear there was a V8 under the hood.
Driving the 2025 Ford Expedition – 8.0/10
Behind the wheel, the Expedition proves stable, refined and surprisingly agile for such a massive machine. We took to the road with a Platinum model during our first day of driving with 24-inch tires. Our impression was good, but we preferred the more comfortable tires of the Tremor version. (We’ve said it before: large tires look impressive, but in addition to costing a fortune to replace, you’ll be penalised on daily driving comfort.)
The Expedition’s chassis brilliantly absorbs all road imperfections and keeps the cabin remarkably quiet, while the smooth and precise steering ensures stress-free manoeuvring on all roads, from city boulevards to rougher paths.
The Tremor version, with its 33-inch all-terrain tires and raised ground clearance, even enjoys getting dirty when the need for adventure calls you off the beaten track.
Fuel consumption
Fuel use is within the category norm, with 14.7L/100 km city, 10.4L/100 km highway and 12.8L/100 km combined. It’s important to remember that a) the heavier your foot on the accelerator, the thirstier the V6 will be, and b) Eco mode can save a few litres when driving more sedately.

The final word
The 2025 Ford Expedition is fully equipped to carve out a place for itself against the indispensable Chevrolet Tahoe. With its reinforced appearance, ultra-spacious cabin, advanced onboard technologies and powerful engines, it asserts itself more than ever as the big family SUV.
However, the infotainment system will need to be rethought; it advances technologically but regresses in terms of user-friendliness.
2025 Ford Expedition – Canadian pricing
A word regarding the dizzying prices. The entry-level Active model starts at $82,115. Our Platinum model was over $96,000 with the Ultimate package at $14,945 and a few other details bringing the price to $113,585. Our Tremor with options was $107,000, and a King Ranch version without options starts at $107,535 and over $111,000 in Max version.
You now have to be rich to drive a Ford.
